ABOUT

Our Organization
Maati Koo is an Oromo word that means “My Family”. The Illubabor region is home to 1.3 million people but because of its long distance to the capital, it is often overlooked. Through partnerships with Mettu University and the Illubabor education office, we strive to build capacity with community-designed solutions to community-identified problems.

Maati Koo is a registered 501(c)3 in the United States and supports schools and communities in the Illubabor region. Today Maati Koo has planted over 1000 trees on school compounds.
Our Mission
Maati Koo aims to improve the well-being of local communities by promoting sustainable farming practices, increasing economic stability, and improving academic performance. Maati Koo seeks to work with schools, businesses, and local government to get community input from all impact taken.
